I love the personal anecdotes! But I also really enjoyed this piece on the extraordinary Duchamp and his intellectual evolution. What kind of artists were his two brothers?
Thanks Charlotte! I should have named the brothers because they took pseudonyms: Jacques Villon, an underrated Cubist, is the eldest. The second, Raymond Duchamp-Villon was a sculptor remembered for two strong modernist works. He died young in the war. But the house they grew up in was filled with their maternal grandfather’s paintings. A charmed family.
Marc, so much, so over written about the man. You stay so on point, filling in details that are actual fulcrums for Duchamp’s practice. Once again huge thanks for striking the nail with such precision.
I wish you were an app I could use to filter my daily life. Call Apple now.
What a friendly thought. (Big red heart)
A fantastic piece Marc. I can't wait to see the exhibition and I'll do so with your insights in mind.
So glad you read me dear Sara. The show does him justice

one of your better pieces of writing...without the personal antidotes...
Thanks Ann. You should try integrating personal anecdotes sometime. Yours are more interesting than mine.

You’re very kind, dear John. I loved MoMA’s show and dared myself to take him on. He just doesn’t old!
